If you want to have more flexibility with booking travel plans while being rewarded, then the Flying Kangaroo has you covered. Qantas Frequent Flyer is partnering with buy-now, pay-later (BNPL) provider Zip, giving customers even more ways to earn Qantas Points.

Available on flight bookings departing from Australia, Zip enables travellers to pay for their flight bookings later, while earning Zip Rewards points. Here’s what you need to know.

How do I earn Qantas Points with Zip?

When you book a domestic or international flight originating in Australia on the Qantas.com website, you’ll be able to select Zip at the checkout. If you have a Zip Pay or Zip Money account with enough balance, you can then purchase the ticket with Zip and pay it off later, subject to Zip’s fees and conditions.

If you pay your booking with Zip, you’ll earn 1 Qantas Point per A$3 spent on flights. This is on top of any other credit card points and frequent flyer points earned from flying. A 1.5% payment fee applies (capped at $22 for domestic or $120 for international).

You can also transfer points from Zip Rewards to Qantas. Zip Rewards is a separate loyalty program that operates a bit like a cashback. Once you accumulate A$20 or more in ‘cashback’, you can cash it out or transfer it to 500 Qantas Points. You need to have an account with both programs and link your Qantas account in the Zip app.

Is transferring points from Zip Rewards worth it?

While we do embrace new ways to earn frequent flyer points, you may find that taking the $20 cash reward may be better than converting it to 500 Qantas Points, which we value at $9.50.

Expiry date: unknown

If you’re new to Zip, you can pocket 3,000 Qantas Points. Just sign up and activate your Zip account, link your Qantas account in the app, and then make a purchase within 90 days of activation. You’ll earn 3,000 bonus Qantas Points within 14 days of that transaction. At this stage, there is no end date to this offer.

Summing up

Qantas Frequent Flyer has landed another partnership, this time with BNPL company Zip. It’s a handy option to have if you’re a Zip customer – just be aware of the fees that can be charged. This includes a 1.5% payment fee at checkout, plus account fees (Zip Pay & Zip Money) and interest (Zip Money only) that may apply to balances you carry over.

Zip does perform credit checks for new users, so keep that in mind if you’re signing up for the 3,000 bonus Qantas Points offer. But if you’re set on using Zip, at least you’ll earn 1 Qantas Point per A$3 spent and can potentially turn your Zip Rewards points into Qantas Points.
