A visit to Jordan should be on any ardent wanderer’s wishlist. From the rolling, limestone house-capped hills of Amman to the curiously buoyant waters of the Dead Sea, Jordan will captivate you. Oh, and how can we forget the wondrous Petra and its iconic, UNESCO World Heritage-listed ruins?
Flying there is also easy with frequent flyer points. From Australia, Qatar Airways and Etihad are the two major carriers that can take you to one-stop to Jordan with Velocity Points. Got Qantas Points? You might want to lean into the far-reaching network of Emirates.
There are other, more indirect ways to fly to Jordan, of course. But in this guide, we’ll focus on the easiest one-stop routes there via the Middle East.
Flying to Jordan with Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways flies to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. With such good connectivity, many of you will just be one stop away from Amman via Doha. But there’s one quirk you need to be aware of before booking.
The Doha-Amman route is only available in Economy and regional First Class. Even though regional ‘First Class’ actually uses standard Business Class seats, the cabin is ticketed as First Class so it comes with Al Safwa First Lounge access when departing Doha. You can also combine it with a proper Airbus A380 First Class seat between Doha and Perth or Sydney at the First Class rate all the way.
Booking with Velocity Points
Unfortunately, the downside is you can’t mix it with a Business Class seat between Australia and Doha. So if that was your plan, you’ll need to book the Business and First Class legs separately. Velocity Frequent Flyer doesn’t allow mixed-cabin redemptions. Fees and taxes are approximately $335 in Economy and $1,010 in Business/First, one-way.
(one-way) using Velocity Points | Economy | Business + First | First |
Perth-Amman | 50,000 pts | 78,000 pts + 38,000 pts | 134,000 pts |
Adelaide-Amman | 56,000 pts | 104,000 pts + 38,000 pts | N/A |
Melbourne-Amman | 56,000 pts | 104,000 pts + 38,000 pts | N/A |
Brisbane-Amman | 65,000 pts | 104,000 pts + 38,000 pts | N/A |
Sydney-Amman | 65,000 pts | 104,000 pts + 38,000 pts | 177,000 pts |
Booking with AAdvantage miles and Avios
Yes, our trip to Jordan focused on using Velocity Points. But we’ve got a tip that’s just too hot to keep quiet. As a oneworld member airline, you can also enjoy excellent rates flying Qatar Airways with Asia Miles, AAdvantage miles and Avios with British Airways or Qatar Airways. AAdvantage uses a fixed, region-based award chart and there’s no extra cost to combine a Business and First Class award.
(one-way) using AAdvantage miles | Economy | Business + First | First |
Perth-Amman | 42,500 miles | 80,000 miles | 100,000 miles |
Adelaide-Amman | 42,500 miles | 80,000 miles | N/A |
Melbourne-Amman | 42,500 miles | 80,000 miles | N/A |
Brisbane-Amman | 42,500 miles | 80,000 miles | N/A |
Sydney-Amman | 42,500 miles | 80,000 miles | 100,000 miles |
As it turns out, Qatar Airways also uses region-based award pricing. This means that no matter where in Australia you depart from on Qatar Airways, the mileage cost is the same.
(one-way) using Privilege Club Avios | Economy | Business + First | First |
Perth-Amman | 40,000 Avios | 80,000 Avios | 120,000 Avios |
Adelaide-Amman | 40,000 Avios | 80,000 Avios | N/A |
Melbourne-Amman | 40,000 Avios | 80,000 Avios | N/A |
Brisbane-Amman | 40,000 Avios | 80,000 Avios | N/A |
Sydney-Amman | 40,000 Avios | 80,000 Avios | 120,000 Avios |
With AAdvantage miles and Privilege Club Avios, you can fly in First Class luxury with very little to pay on the side in fees and taxes. For example, AAdvantage only charges US$130.60 on the side for an Amman-Perth redemption, regardless of whether you’re flying Economy or First Class.
Booking with Qantas Points
Though you can technically book Qatar Airways flights with Qantas Points, it’s difficult to do so because Qatar Airways only releases last-minute seats to Qantas Frequent Flyer (as of June 2023). If you do manage to get a seat, here’s how many points you can expect to part with. Qantas allows Business and First mixed-cabin rewards on the same ticket but applies separate pricing for each leg.
(one-way) using Qantas Points | Economy | Business + First | First |
Perth-Amman | 45,000 pts | 90,000 pts + 43,500 pts | 149,800 pts |
Adelaide-Amman | 50,300 pts | 119,200 pts + 43,500 pts | N/A |
Melbourne-Amman | 61,500 pts | 119,200 pts + 43,500 pts | N/A |
Brisbane-Amman | 61,500 pts | 119,200 pts + 43,500 pts | N/A |
Sydney-Amman | 61,500 pts | 119,200 pts + 43,500 pts | 199,300 pts |
Flying to Jordan with Etihad
Etihad maintains a slimmer network in Australia with only flights to Melbourne and Sydney. But Etihad’s Business Class to Amman is just that – Business Class. This means you can enjoy value-for-money comfort in Economy or Business Class, all the way to Jordan.
Book with Velocity Points
Fees and taxes range from around A$270 one-way in Economy up to A$705 one-way in Business.
(one-way) using Velocity Points | Economy | Business |
Melbourne-Amman | 56,000 pts | 104,000 pts |
Sydney-Amman | 65,000 pts | 121,000 pts |
Alternatives for booking Etihad flights with points or miles include using Air Canada Aeroplan and Etihad Guest. A one-way Business Reward from Sydney to Amman with Aeroplan Points would cost 65,000 points in Economy or 110,000 points in Business, plus CA$146 (AU$167) in fees and taxes.
(one-way) using Aeroplan Points | Economy | Business |
Melbourne-Amman | 65,000 pts | 110,000 pts |
Sydney-Amman | 65,000 pts | 110,000 pts |
Flying to Jordan with Emirates
If you want the cream of the crop with luxury First Class travel, Emirates may just be the answer. The Dubai-based carrier might only fly to four Australian destinations compared to Qatar Airways (Adelaide is sadly left out), but every flight from Australia to Amman includes a dazzling First Class cabin. Emirates also offers Business Class all the way, so you can pay one streamlined price for comfort.
Just keep in mind that these days, Emirates reward seat availability is quite limited until the weeks leading up to travel.

Sydney-Amman | 61,500 pts | 139,200 pts | 199,300 pts |
Book with Skywards miles
These are the ‘Saver’ award prices, not the ‘Flex Plus’ (except for First Class awards where only Flex Plus is available).

Honourable mention: Royal Jordanian
Jordan’s flag carrier, Royal Jordanian, is a oneworld member airline and can be booked with Qantas Points. Unfortunately, the airline doesn’t fly to Australia. If you were thinking of planning an unusual route to Jordan with Qantas Points – here’s one. Fly Qantas from Sydney to Bangkok and Royal Jordanian from Bangkok to Amman.
Going to Amman, a long evening layover is required in Bangkok (around 8 hrs). Coming back to Australia, you can connect with only a few hours’ wait at the airport. We also have a review of the Royal Jordanian Crown Lounge in Amman.

Ready to plan your Jordan holiday? Here are our final tips and tricks.
- Emirates and Etihad have magnificent Business and First Class lounges at their home airports (Dubai and Abu Dhabi, respectively). - Qatar Airways also offers lounge access to both Qantas and Velocity Gold/Platinum members and higher. However, if you are in Economy, you’ll be sent to dedicated Gold and Platinum frequent flyer lounges instead. Business Class passengers can head to the Al Mourjan Business Lounge. First Class passengers are welcomed to the Al Safwa First Lounge.
