When you and your employees fly Qantas for work, ensure your business benefits through the Qantas Business Rewards program. All QBR points you earn can be transferred freely to any Qantas Frequent Flyer member.
In September 2024, Qantas Business Rewards was further updated to include earnings on selected Jetstar bundles and to also increase the rate earned on Qantas Hotels stays.
Who is Qantas Business Rewards for?
Qantas Business Rewards is open to any business entity with an ABN registered for GST. This covers those operating as a sole trader, through to businesses with multiple employees. Larger ACN entities are not eligible.
The program usually has a one-off $89.50 fee to join, but there are often codes or promotions to waive this.
It’s important to note that the membership (and the points earned) belong to your business, not you personally. But you can later choose who to transfer the points to, including yourself.
Points can be earned primarily from flying with Qantas – by adding your frequent flyer membership number and business ABN into the booking – or with the program’s 50+ partners.
Members can also get discounts on some revenue Qantas fares. These can be accessed by booking through the Qantas Business Rewards website, or the standard Qantas website when your personal and business accounts are linked.
Looking to earn points for your business? Why not take advantage of the offers?
What are the Qantas Business Rewards membership tiers and benefits?
Qantas Business Rewards has membership tiers: similar to the status tiers of a frequent flyer program. But rather than being based on status credits, members progress through those tiers by earning points on Qantas flights.
Known simply as Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, the benefits and savings get higher as your level increases.
Level 1: Qantas Business Rewards
This is where you will be when you first join. At this level, you’ll get:
- 20 Qantas Points for every 100 Qantas Points your travellers receive on flights.
- Up to 6% discount on select flight bookings (other than Discount Economy and Discount Business).
- Save 20% on Qantas Club memberships.
Level 2: Qantas Business Rewards
This is the mid-level tier in the program. You’ll move up once your business has earned 15,000 Qantas Points from flying within a membership year. This provides:
- 30 Qantas Points for every 100 Qantas Points earned by your travellers on flights for the business.
- Discounts of up to 9% on eligible flight bookings.
- Save up to 3% on domestic Red eDeals.
- Save 30% on Qantas Club memberships.
Level 3: Qantas Business Rewards
The top tier in the program is yours by earning more than 80,000 Qantas Points from your business’ flights in a membership year. Here’s what you’ll get as a reward:
- Earn 40 Qantas Points for every 100 Qantas Points your travellers earn from company flights.
- Save up to 10% on eligible flight bookings.
- On domestic Red eDeals, save up to 5%.
- Nominate one person per membership year for a fast-track to Qantas Gold status.
Of course, Level 3 members get the other benefits of Level 2. This includes a 30% discount on Qantas Club memberships.
How can I earn points with Qantas Business Rewards?
Qantas has a whole ecosystem of ways to earn points. Whether you’re flying, staying at hotels, or even purchasing partner products or services, earning rewards is easy. Avis, BP, Budget, Dell and Pay.com.au are among the program’s many partners – see the full list here.
Note that when you transfer points from the Qantas Business Rewards to an individual, a maximum of 20,000 points will count towards Points Club and Points Club Plus status each membership year.
Earning points by flying
In September 2024, select Jetstar bundles are now eligible to earn Qantas Business Rewards points.
The primary way to earn points is by flying and ensuring both the Qantas Frequent Flyer member number and business ABN are in the booking. Qantas Business Rewards effectively lets you stack your rewards by double-dipping with Qantas Frequent Flyer.
The person flying with your ABN attached (you, a business partner or an employee, for example) will earn Qantas Points into their personal Qantas Frequent Flyer account. Your business will also earn a percentage of those points in your Business Rewards account.
Qantas Business Rewards is a cross-channel program, meaning you can book your flight through Qantas.com, on the QBR website, or even through your travel agent. Just ensure both the QFF number and business ABN are in the booking.
Selected Jetstar bundles – Flex, Flex Plus and Business Max – now quality to earn QBR points. Ensure you tick ‘I am travelling or arrange travel for business‘ and add the business ABN during checkout, or contact Jetstar to add it in afterwards if needed.
All eligible Jetstar bundles earn 20 points for every 100 Qantas Points the traveller earns.
Earning points through accommodation
In September 2024, the Qantas Hotels earn rate for businesses was increased from 1 point per dollar to 3 points per dollar when booked through the QBR Business Account.
In addition to the regular rate of three Qantas Points per $1 spent when booking at over 200,000 partner hotels through Qantas Hotels, Qantas Business Rewards members can earn an extra 3 points per $1 spent by booking through the QBR account portal. This excludes Airbnb bookings.
However, Qantas Hotels bookings usually don’t qualify for points and benefits in a hotel’s own loyalty program, so you’ll need to pick between earning with Qantas or with the hotel loyalty program.
Earning points through car hire and fuel
When you need to hit the road for business, there are great deals with Avis and Budget. Both companies offer four Qantas Business Rewards points per $1 spent, on top of the usual four Qantas Points earned per $1 as a frequent flyer member.
Earning points with Qantas Business Rewards partners
Qantas Business Rewards has a wide range of partners, ranging from business services to logistics, marketing and office supplies.
Some of these partners might let you earn Qantas Points into a personal account instead. But, if you have access to Qantas Business Rewards (and all else is equal with the product and price, etc.) then you should do so.
That’s because the points are more flexible. They can be transferred to either your own Qantas Frequent Flyer account or to any of your employees or business associates who you have registered. If they were instead credited straight to your personal frequent flyer account, you would only be able to transfer them to family members.
Summing up
The Qantas Business Rewards program makes it simple for your business (and, by extension, you and your employees/associates) to earn Qantas Points, particularly for small and medium enterprises.
You can earn more points for your business and even discounts on Qantas fares – both of which will improve as you progress through the membership levels. QBR points can be converted to Qantas Points for you or other eligible employees.
Be sure to check out current offers to boost your QBR balance. Then, use your Qantas Points on one of these great-value redemptions.
Should I be removing my ABN and just going for points club plus as we do not fly for the business often enough to reach Tier 3 in 12 months!
The link to join for free is not working now. Would it be possible to update?
Thanks
Mike
I couldn’t see any reference to it on the Business Rewards website or FAQs – although it is buried in Clause 6.2 (e) in the terms and conditions – but in order to earn any Qantas points under Business Rewards a business needs to registered for GST. Strictly speaking you can join QBR if you aren’t GST registered (but have an ABN) but you won’t be entitled to earn points – which seems to defeat the whole point of joining.
That said, for most small businesses, the low discount rate and the low point earn rate (a fraction of the base points for a sector) would not make this offering a preferred choice – the VA alternative (Accelerate) has consistently offered better discounts IME.
Important to note the quoted discounts are “up to” – again, IME, many routes I have needed to book simply did not offer a discount or a discount that did not merit serious consideration.
For many small business operators choosing airline for a domestic flight based upon the “best fare of the day” would be more important than the trivial offerings being made herein by QF!
The usual QF smoke and mirrors!
