These deals are no longer available – if any new card offers with Qantas Status Credits are released, we’ll update this page.

Last week, we wrote about the benefits of holding elite status with Qantas Frequent Flyer, which gives you perks like lounge access, priority seat selection and access to more award seats.

With both the the American Express Qantas Ultimate and ANZ Frequent Flyer Black currently offering 75 Status Credits as well as a large 75,000 Qantas point sign-up bonus, if you’re in the market for a new Qantas Point-earning card, one of these could be a good way to go.

In this guide we look at the bonus Qantas Status Credit offers so you know what you’re dealing with.

The 75,000 Qantas Point sign-up bonus on either card will get you enough points to fly Emirates Business Class from the East Coast to New Zealand return, usually costing over $1,500!

Earning the 75 bonus Qantas Status credits with either offer

There are some notable terms that have been applied to the 75 Status Credits component of both offers, which mean:

  1. You’ll need to apply in the current offer window for either card – for Qantas Ultimate this is before 1st May, for ANZ Frequent Flyer Black this is 30th June
  2. You’ll need to book and travel on a new Qantas return flight (paid fares only, not points redemption), between 6th March and 11.59pm on 30th September 2017
  3. You have to record your Qantas Frequent Flyer number in the booking at the time of booking the fare
  4. If you change or cancel your flight, or it is completed outside these dates, the offer won’t be triggered
  5. Flights need to be booked directly with Qantas at Qantas.com
  6. The bonus Status Credits could take up to 10 weeks after travel to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account
  7. The bonus Status Credits won’t trigger a loyalty bonus
  8. The bonus Status Credits won’t contribute towards attaining Platinum One status

So if you’re thinking of topping up your Status Credits as you have an account renewal date coming up in the next few months, unfortunately this offer may not work for you – because there is no guarantee as to when they will actually credit your account.

Otherwise – the addition of bonus Qantas Status credits on a credit card offer is a new and appealing tactic by banks to win your business.

Summing up

Both of these cards are offering a very useful 75,000-point sign-up bonus, and the 75 Status Credits thrown in is a nice sweetener.

The Qantas Ultimate Card offers a higher points-earn opportunity for the die-hard Qantas Point collector, plus the free yearly return Qantas domestic flight helps to offset the $450 annual fee.

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Black may be for you if you like the idea of no first year annual fee, and if your spending habits mean the $7,500 cap on points earn is not a restraining factor. Plus the Visa card could be more widely accepted than an American Express depending on your spending habits.

Overall, they are both very handy Qantas point-earning cards and if you’re in the market for a new card, the Amex Qantas Ultimate or the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black – or both cards – could be a good option.
