Virgin Australia offers single-entry passes that get you into a domestic Virgin Australia lounge before your next flight. This is especially handy if you don’t hold Velocity Gold or Platinum status or are not flying Business Class.

In this guide, we’ll cover how you can get single-entry Virgin Australia lounge passes and how to use them.

What is a Virgin Australia single-entry lounge pass?

As the name suggests, a single-entry lounge pass will grant you one entry into a domestic Virgin Australia lounge. The following guidelines apply when using these passes:

  • A single-entry lounge pass entitles one passenger only to enter a Virgin Australia lounge (no guests included.) For children aged between 2-17 years, a separate pass is required. Infants under the age of 2 can enter the lounge for free.
  • If you already have lounge access through travelling Business Class, with Velocity Gold or Platinum status or with a Virgin Australia lounge membership, then these single-entry passes can be used to bring extra guests in.
  • The passenger must be travelling on a same-day Virgin Australia flight.
  • The single-entry pass can only be used up to two hours before a departing Virgin Australia flight.
  • The single-entry pass cannot be used to access a Virgin Australia lounge on arrival.

As with all complimentary passes, it’s important to note that entry into the lounge is not guaranteed. Access is subject to space availability, and you may find that you are unable to redeem a single-entry pass during peak travel periods like school holidays or when the lounge is projected to be busy.

How do I get a Virgin Australia single-entry lounge pass for free?

There are two ways to obtain complimentary single-entry Virgin Australia lounge passes: by reaching Velocity Silver status, or with select credit cards.

Single-entry lounge passes from reaching Velocity Silver

Velocity Silver members receive two digital complimentary single-entry lounge passes. This is ongoing for every year you continue to maintain Velocity Silver status. The passes are available to view in your Velocity account and are valid for 12 months.

Virgin Australia’s lounge passes cannot be transferred to another passenger (unlike Qantas single-entry lounge passes.) But if you’ve got a travel companion, you can redeem one of your passes to grant them lounge access, provided they’re accompanying you. This includes children aged between 2-17 years.

For Velocity Silver members who also hold a Virgin Australia lounge membership, you can redeem both complimentary passes for accompanying guests.

Single-entry lounge passes from credit cards

Select credit cards offer complimentary lounge passes as a yearly benefit. These digital passes are automatically allocated to your Velocity account.

Where to use your single-entry lounge passes

Virgin Australia currently has seven domestic lounges across Australia. These are the only places you can redeem your digital single-entry lounge passes. Virgin Australia does not currently operate any international lounges.

How to use a single-entry lounge pass

When redeeming a single-entry lounge pass, the person whose account it is tied to must be travelling, although additional passes on that account can be allocated to guests who are accompanying them.

Just flash your Velocity Frequent Flyer card (available on the Virgin Australia app or Velocity app) at the lounge reception and tell them the number of passes you wish to redeem. If you do not have your card, then make sure your Velocity member number is showing on your boarding pass, as that is all they need to find the lounge passes.

Can I buy a single-entry pass for Virgin Australia lounges?

If you’re flying with Virgin Australia, you can purchase a single-entry pass to enter a Virgin Australia lounge for up to two hours prior to departure.

Passes can be purchased at the lounge reception at the following prices:

  • Adult: $65
  • Child (aged 2-17 years): $45

Infants under the age of two can enter the lounge for free.

Why you should not buy single-entry lounge passes

At $65 a head for a maximum of two hours in a domestic lounge, it probably isn’t worth paying to access a Virgin Australia lounge.

Consider using your cash to bid for a Business Class upgrade on your Virgin Australia flight instead. If you’re booked on an eligible fare, you may have the option to place a cash bid before your flight. Provided your bid is successful, you’ll not only have access to a lounge but also the comforts of Business Class during your flight. Bids on the lower end of the scale (including the minimum bid) have a chance of being accepted. It’s not uncommon to successfully upgrade for $65 (the cost of a single-entry lounge pass) on some routes.

Instead of buying a single-entry lounge pass, consider bidding to upgrade your Virgin Australia flight for the full premium experience.

Summing up

Virgin Australia’s single lounge passes are a great perk to have if they’re included with your credit card or Velocity Silver status, as you can access a lounge before an upcoming Economy flight (subject to capacity.)

The lounges generally have a decent selection of healthy salads, some simple hot food during main meal periods, a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and a place to work and shower should you need to.
