British Airways this morning released a 50% sale on miles redemption bookings (login required) – so there are some excellent bargains to be had if you are planning to travel on a BA operated route out of Australia, and you have a stash of BA miles.
BA miles can be a little hard to get in Australia, so I won’t go on about this too much – I doubt many AU residents have a BA miles balance, especially given that BA doesn’t technically operate the Executive Club program over here and denies access to anyone with an Australian residential address.
However, if you do accrue your oneworld miles to BA or collect miles in other ways, this is a great time to redeem points. The offer expires on 12th August, for bookings up to 2nd August 2012.
The discount is only valid in the Economy, Premium Economy and Club Europe cabins, and only on BA metal – so no codeshares or partner redemptions.
I considering booking a tentative redemption to Asia and onwards next year, especially given their flexible cancellation policy, which is normally just a nominal fee to cancel with a full miles refund.
- Full Terms & Conditions (BA login required)
- BA miles redemption table for South Pacific departures (for BA and partners, but this is the same as a BA metal redemption)
There are only a couple of BA operated routes from Australia (below) but this could be useful if you’re looking to travel anywhere on BA’s network in 2012, and for Premium Economy redemptions, it might make sense to purchase miles to take advantage of the discount.

- Sydney – Bangkok (- London)
