Qantas Frequent Flyer is running another 10-20% bonus on transfers from credit cards that allow manual transfers to Qantas Points. But now, you can also earn bonus Status Credits with transfers too!
Note: this offer excludes most cards except American Express Membership Rewards Ascent Premium and Business Ascent, ANZ Business Rewards and Westpac Altitude Business cards.
That’s because the vast majority of Qantas Frequent Flyer co-branded cards are direct earn. This means points are swept to your account every month. Transfer bonuses don’t apply to direct earn cards.
The current 10-20% bonus is average – previously, it was 15-25%. Either way, it’s probably not worth speculatively transferring your points over. If you do have a specific redemption in mind, including international travel in 2022, this will save you some points.
These bonuses help to offset some of Qantas’ higher points redemption pricing compared to its competitors like Asia Miles. It’s also good for transferring over if you have one of the best uses of Qantas Points in mind. We’re fans of Emirates First Class in particular!
The current bonus offer
- 10% bonus on transfers of up to 299,999 points
- 20% bonus on transfers of 300,000+ points
- 1 Status Credit for every 5,000 Qantas Points transferred (up to 200 SCs)
To reach the maximum 200 bonus Status Credits with this offer, you would need to transfer over at least 1 million Qantas Points (earning an extra 200,000 Qantas Points in the process).
Bonus Status Credits will not contribute towards any Loyalty Bonuses, or any Platinum or Platinum One Bonus Rewards. However, it will count to your current and lifetime Status Credits levels.
The offer runs until 30 September 2021. You can view the offer through this link, though it mentions you should also be targeted with an email as well.
Bonus points may take up to 15 days after the promotion ends to credit to your account, so keep that in mind if you have a specific flight booking with points that you want to make.
Am I eligible to take part in this promotion?
The transfer bonus offer is usually targeted to members who have previously made a transfer. While Qantas has published the deal online, you should also check your email and physical mail to see if you’ve received specific communication about it.
Emails (or snail mail) are usually sent to everyone who is eligible, and members that receive them are usually those who have made a transfer to Qantas Points from their credit card in the past.
If you are a member of an eligible card/bank rewards program, it might be worth making a small transfer to Qantas outside of a bonus period so you have a greater chance of being included in the next promotion. No guarantees, but it is worth a shot.
What cards are eligible for this offer?
As we mentioned earlier, only cards that allow you to earn bank points and then later transfer them to Qantas are eligible for this promotion. This includes the following:
- American Express Centurion
- ANZ Business Rewards cards
- American Express Platinum Charge
- Westpac Altitude Business Platinum and Business Gold
- American Express Business Platinum Charge

Summing up: should you take advantage of the transfer bonus?
Each time this comes around it seems to be on a short-term basis, and with little predictability. Either way, it is useful for those who have points balances they can transfer to Qantas but with the limited cards that offer it, that is not going to be too many of us.
The deal is helpful if you have a premium card like the American Express Platinum Charge, and you know you will want to use your point balance for Qantas Frequent Flyer redemptions or upgrades. It might also be good if you want to top-up your Status Credits balance.
However, there are better-value redemptions available from other programs like KrisFlyer and Asia Miles if you are willing to go looking.

Is there an article / thread on this Matt?

Please clarify. Thanks
I’ve been taking advantage of the previous Qantas promos concerning transferring bank points to qantas. As Matt pointed out, the terms and conditions clearly state its targeted to members that have received an email to that effect. I’ve received emails for the previous promotions but oddly enough haven’t received an email for this promo. If anyone has any input I’d appreciate it greatly.
Should I a) make a 2000 point promotion during this bonus period and see if I get the bonus; b) wait until this promotion period is over and try transfering 2000 points again or c) do both a) and b)!
Do AMEX notify you or Qantas?
And how, via email or snail mail?
I’ve transferred to Qantas before but I haven’t received anything regarding his yet for my Plat Charge.
Cheers
I have just received an offer for 20% Bonus an [all] points transfers to QFF made before 31 August 2018, by snail mail.
I already have a little over 350,000 Frequent Flyer points and I have just over 200,000 Westpac Altitude points (120,000 Qantas equivalent inc. bonus) available to transfer.
My question is this.. in your opinion should I take the transfer bonus, or would the Altitude points offer better value for travel with other airlines?
These are the current redemtion rates:
199,800 Altitude Points* = 1,110 Air New Zealand Airpoints
200,000 Altitude Points* = 80,000 Asia Miles
200,000 Altitude Points* = 80,000 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles
200,000 Altitude Points* = 100,000 Malaysia Airlines Enrich points
200,000 Altitude Points* = 100,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer Points
200,000 Altitude Points* = 100,000 Velocity Points
I will most likely be using the points for Business class travel to Europe (2pax)
TIA for your opinions.
Cheers
Sam
I may have inadvertently deleted some emails and prefer to transfer the minimum of 2000 points (in the first instance) to test whether I receive the bonus, before transferring more. Thank you.
When I had the Platinum Charge card, I was earning Membership Rewards Ascent Premium points, which can be transferred to Qantas and I believe they transfer 1:1 to Emirates.
Unfortunately I closed my Platinum Charge card late last year. I still have the Platinum Reserve card, which I thought was still accruing Ascent Premium points, but this doesn’t seem to be the case any more.
The double bummer is that for most of the time I held the Platinum Charge card, I was unable to transfer points to Qantas because “something was broken” in Amex’s registration of my Qantas account. Eventually I got it fixed over the phone and transferred a few points shortly before I closed the card.
or does anyone else know?
I don’t think it was a special offer for me personally just for Centurion cardholders. They just send emails to me with the offers. I’d transferred lots of points before to Qantas but other than that I can’t think of any reason I would be selected for an extra bonus
YOU CHOOSE HOW YOU’LL FLY
Transfer your points to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program or to the loyalty programs of eight other airline reward Partners. The Rewards Advantage Card comes with Membership Rewards Ascent Premium. It’s our premier program, designed with frequent travellers in mind.
You basically can book QF reward seats via Cathay Pacific/Asia Miles for about 15% less points anyway!
Qantas have very high points required for award flights, then their surcharges are sky high, their product is so dated, oh and their customer service is now so slow and shocking to top it off.
I agree with Juanita…SQ all the way!! SQ has award flights for far less points (more than 20% less), stacks of availability, lowers taxes/surcharges, an awesome product and they answer the phone after 2 rings.
I figure after offering a 15-20% bonus this puts QF possibly just on par with the other airlines. They are 15-20% more expensive/worse!
The thing is I’ve only redeemed the minimum 3000 Attitude Business points to 1500 QFF so far. Thought it would get me on the list next time round. Should I redeem more to become noticed?
Can you forward the link for the bonus credit? I realise it’s targeted, but can we try generic URL?
Thanks
