After arriving into Frankfurt from London on BA in the early evening, we set about whiling away a few hours until the 23.50 departure to Singapore.
We headed over to the JAL Sakura lounge which was just a few minutes walk from our arrival gate. It turned out the lounge was also well located for our Qantas departure as well – all pretty convenient.

The member of staff on the desk had a manifest of incoming passengers expected to show up at the lounge, and names were crossed off the list as we entered. I assume this is for accounting purposes – we weren’t offered a boarding pass reprint and we’d already checked in for the flight in London, so can’t see why else this would be needed.
Departing from FRA, Qantas passengers travelling in Business, with Oneworld Emerald status or above, or Qantas Club Membership all have access. This was pretty pretty evident – the place was packed with only a few seats free.
The environment was nice – lots of nice design touches, wood, thick carpet – but it was all just too cramped. Not enough room to start with; too many chairs in the already small space; too many people needing to use the facilities; and a couple of TV’s blaring loud news channels. Not the most relaxing environment.
The food on offer was pretty sparse – yoghurts, fruit, mini sandwiches, noodles, that kind of thing, and the drinks fridge was pretty well stocked. Staff were working hard to keep the place clean too.
After about 15 minutes at a cramped table and chair we decided to move on and see what other options Frankfurt held – at 9-10pm, there wasn’t much. It was a bit of a shame as when it’s quieter, this is a pretty nice lounge. Could do with more food options though!
Next time through I’d like to check out the Cathay Pacific Lounge – it’s also in Terminal 2, but is only open until 10pm if travelling on QF6 you’d need to lounge-hop back to the JAL lounge after it closed.
