With the COVID-19 pandemic worsening in Victoria and New South Wales, face masks are becoming increasingly important. In fact, it will be compulsory to wear face coverings in Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire from the start of Thursday 23 July 2020 onwards.

Recommendations vary across the other states and territories. But it’s still good practice to keep face masks on hand at home, particularly for travelling in the future when borders eventually re-open, or if the situation does worsen again.

Why not make some lemonade out of lemons? Here’s how to earn some bonus frequent flyer points if you do need to buy some face masks or similar facial coverings.

Summing Up

You’re likely not going to earn a bucketload of points from buying face masks, but it’s handy to know your options — after all, every point counts. Alternatively, some cashback offers may prove to be more rewarding.

If you’re new to using Qantas or Velocity online malls for shopping, read our guide on how to do it while making sure your purchases track correctly. Also, check out our points valuations in case you’re not sure whether to go for the points or the cashback.

Of course, our list isn’t exhaustive. If you do see other retailers selling masks, scarves, or similar items, be sure to check the Qantas and Velocity stores to see if they’re listed, plus Cashrewards. Most importantly, stay safe!
