If you have some (increasingly devalued) Enrich Miles, or a credit card linked to Enrich, there is an ‘alright’ opportunity to get discounted redemptions in lie-flat Business Class seats (on most services) for travel between Australia and Malaysia until mid-June.
This is definitely not as generous as the 50% off across-the-board Business Class redemptions that we saw in September last year.
Malaysia Airlines has 10-30% off award flights in Business Class between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney/Melbourne/Adelaide/Perth starting from 49,500 miles one-way, and Darwin from 40,500 miles one-way. There is a discount on redemptions on Malaysia’s Perth to Kota Kinabalu services too.
There is also 10-30% off Economy Class redemptions for 20,250 (most cities) and 12,600 miles (Darwin), respectively.
As of September 2016, all services to and from Australia (excluding Darwin to Kuala Lumpur and Perth to Kota Kinabalu services) are on refurbished A330s with lie-flat Business Class seats, pictured below.
This promotion runs until 27 March and all travel (including return legs) must be completed by 15 June 2017.
Connecting flights to other destinations Malaysia Airlines serves are not covered by this promotion.
If you have between 70% and 100% of the required miles for the redemption, you can use the Cash + Miles option.
Offer history
- March 2017 (current offer): 10-30% off Business and Economy Class
- September 2016: 50% off Business and Economy Class
Credit Cards with Enrich as a transfer partner
The following bank rewards programs and credit cards have Malaysia Airlines Enrich as a transfer partner:
Transfer to Enrich can take 48 hours or so, so if considering this promotion you’ll want to make the transfer as soon as possible to have the points in your Enrich account in time to make the discounted redemption.
How to search and book
You can do your search and booking online on the Malaysia Airlines website or by calling their international call centre on +603 7843 3000.
Summing up
We think this promotion is an alright opportunity to deplete an outstanding Enrich Miles balance if able to and interested in travel to Malaysia in the next few months, provided you do not have plans to use your miles for a long-haul Business Class redemption on Emirates, which also represents good value.
By point of comparison, 72,000 Enrich Miles will get you from Australia to most destinations in the Emirates network in Business Class, with 87,000 miles being the maximum miles required worldwide.
If you have travel plans to any of the included destinations, then it’s definitely also worth considering a points transfer from your bank/credit card rewards program – but this isn’t one to do speculatively.
Just be aware that for Enrich Miles redemptions both on Malaysia Airlines and Emirates, you may incur high fuel surcharges, and awards, once booked, offer no mileage refunds.

Perth – KL – Kota Kinabalu (2 ppl in business class) = 55k miles + $504.82 AUD
Kota Kinabalu – KL – Perth (2 ppl in business class) = 55k miles + ~$390 AUD (converted from MYR)
IMHO, the latter looks like an awesome deal! 27.5k + $195 pp for new business class!
