Qantas Frequent Flyer have just reached 10 million members – which is pretty staggering, not far from half the population of the country are now signed up to become members of Qantas’ biggest asset.
To ‘celebrate’ the milestone, Qantas are offering a 10% rebate for any Economy Classic Awards made between now and July 31st, with the rebated points coming back to your account within 2 weeks of the booking. They’ve also apparently released 5 million more Classic Award seats, and hopefully they aren’t all between Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
The rebate is valid for any bookings with a Qantas operated flight in Economy in the itinerary. Bookings with mixed classes will only get the 10% rebate on the Economy flight, and aren’t valid for Any Seat Awards either.
You will need to register for the promotion here, before you make your booking.
It’s a good time to get in and make bookings you were going to make anyway to receive the discount, but it’s not enough for me to make some bookings just because of the promotion.
Plus – we all know that you most often get best value out of your points by using them for Premium Economy or higher, right?
But yes, I agree it’s probably not worth it for economy class given that QF charges fuel surcharge. Take Aust to USA for example, economy sale fare can be as low as $1300 (and if you book thru flight centre you get $120 spending voucher). But for points redemption, fuel surcharge alone can be as high as $900 for rt.
