Last week, Qantas officially launched its partnership with BP. It allows Qantas Frequent Flyer members earn 1-2 points per $ spent on purchases at BP (depending on the type of fuel).
Now, first bonus points—or, rather, Status Credits—promotion has launched and it’s an easy win.
Current Qantas-BP bonus offer
You can earn 10 bonus Status Credits (SCs) when you join BP Rewards and choose to earn Qantas Points. Plus, you can earn an extra 10 bonus SCs per 1,000 Qantas Points earned at BP. This offer ends on 30 June.
How to take advantage of this offer
This offer is split into two parts.
How to earn 10 bonus Status Credits
- Join BP Rewards for free
- Opt to earn Qantas Points
- Earn 10 bonus SCs for joining
- Wait up to 6 weeks for SCs to land in your account
How to earn an additional 40 bonus Status Credits
- Go to BP to purchase fuel
- Present your digital card in the Qantas App, BP Rewards card, Qantas Frequent Flyer card in your digital wallet, or Qantas Frequent Flyer card at the time of purchase
- Earn the regular 1-2 Qantas Points per $ spent on fuel and wait 7 days for points to land in your account
- For every 1,000 Qantas Points earned, you’ll also receive an additional 10 bonus SCs (up to a maximim of 40 SCs)
- Wait up to 6 weeks for SCs to land in your account
Assuming a price of $1.30/litre of regular unleaded fuel, you’ll need to spend ~$3,076 on fuel over the next three months to earn the 40 additional SCs. That’s over $250/week, which is quite unrealistic for most people.

Summing up
It’s great to see Qantas being creative by offering bonus Status Credits on purchases at BP during COVID-19.
However, given that people will be spending less on petrol during this period and the high requirement to unlock the 40 additional Status Credits, it’s likely that most people will opt to earn just the bonus 10 Status Credits for joining BP Rewards.

I’ve been trawling all sorts of pages and wondering if you have heard either way on the above. I’ve sent a email to OTR & BP seeking clarification but it could appear that this new offer / reward won’t be available to South Australians.
OTR have a frosty relationship with the SA public at best constantly seen as a monopoly and price gouging at every opportunity so this would be another big issue for South Australians. Thanks for your efforts if you can post / advise on this as your SA readers would be keen to hear.
Cheers Tim
