Earning Qantas Points at Qantas Hotels is a fairly obvious strategy – especially when there’s a headline ‘Triple Points’ offer that nets you at least 9 points per dollar. But don’t forget you can also earn Qantas Points on Airbnb bookings through just a few simple clicks. Airbnb gift cards also occasionally go on sale with bonus points offers.
This guide will help you understand Qantas Hotels and the best ways to take advantage of the points on offers. For details on the latest promotions, visit our separate Qantas Hotels Offers page.
What is Qantas Hotels?
Qantas Hotels is another offshoot of Qantas Frequent Flyer, offering members a portal to book accommodation using Expedia’s network. No surprises here: you can earn and use Qantas Points on hotel bookings.
The usual earn rate is 3 Qantas Points per $1 spent on rooms and packages through the website. Other expenses payable to the hotel won’t earn points. During select promotions, you might also get bonus points for meeting a threshold (i.e. 5,000 bonus points if you spend more than $100), or triple points on everything.
Bookings through Airbnb earn a straight 1 point per $1 spent. Alternative options for Airbnb include earning 3 British Airways Avios for every USD/EUR/GBP spent, or 1 Delta SkyMile per USD spent.
How do I earn Qantas Points with Qantas Hotels?
- Head to the Qantas Hotels homepage and log in to your account.
- Ensure the ‘Hotels’ button is checked, not the ‘Airbnb’ button.
- Enter the required details and click ‘Find your hotel’.
- Compare your hotel options on the next page.
- Complete checkout, ensuring the name on the booking matches the frequent flyer account.
Points Club members will earn a 25% bonus on Qantas Hotel bookings (excluding packages and Airbnb), while Points Club Plus members have a 50% bonus instead.
Travelling for work instead? You’ve got two options. If you prefer to book through the main website or take advantage of an offer, simply enter the ABN connected to your Qantas Business Rewards account to earn a further 1 point per dollar for the business.
Alternatively, book directly through the Qantas Business Rewards portal to earn 3 points per dollar for the business in addition to the booker.
How do I earn Qantas Points with Airbnb?
- Head to the Qantas Hotels homepage
- Ensure the ‘Airbnb’ button is checked, not the ‘Hotels’ button
- Enter the required details and click ‘Search Airbnb’
- Fill in your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number and last name on the next page, then click ‘Continue to Airbnb’
- You will be transferred to the Airbnb website, where you can search for properties and make a booking as usual. There should be a Qantas logo displayed on the initial results page.
- Your Qantas Points will be awarded at least 8 weeks after checking out from the property.
If you’re willing to perform some extra steps to earn more points at no extra cost, here are two strategies:
- Wait for 20x bonus points on Airbnb gift cards at supermarkets: these offers are rare for Airbnb. But when they come around, it’s super rewarding. Buying $1,000 worth of Airbnb gift cards could earn you 2,000 supermarket loyalty points, equivalent to 1,000 Qantas or Velocity Points.
- Buy Airbnb gift cards through the Qantas Marketplace: these are always available and earn you a bonus of 3 Qantas Points per dollar spent. You can add multiple Airbnb gift cards to your account to make a booking within Australia or overseas. You will need to have an Australian-based Airbnb account.
How do I earn Qantas Points through hotel loyalty programs?
Quite a few major hotel chains have the option of earning Qantas Points through its loyalty program. When you have status perks with a particular hotel program, you’ll often need to book directly with them to use the perks, rather than go through a third-party booking agent like Qantas.
In some cases, you’ll earn Qantas Points instead of the usual hotel loyalty points. In others, you may be able to earn hotel reward points as usual and transfer them to Qantas Points at a later stage (such as with Accor Live Limitless and Hilton Honors).

The table above assumes a standard Qantas Hotels earning rate of 3 points per $1 spent, which is the minimum amount. During promotions, this rate could be increased.
How do I earn Qantas Points directly with partner hotels?
Some hotels will offer Qantas Points directly to you when you book with them, as they may not have a loyalty program of their own. One example is TFE Hotels which operates chains such as Travelodge and Adina Apartment Hotels across Australia and New Zealand.
But to earn those points, you must provide your Qantas Frequent Flyer number at the time of booking or check-in to be eligible, plus book published rates online or at the hotel desk.
- Swiss-Belhotels: 3 Qantas Points per A$1 spent in Australia. 1 Qantas Point per US$1 spent overseas.
- TFE Hotels: 3 Qantas Points per A$1 spent in Australia. 1,000 Qantas Points per qualifying stay within New Zealand.
How do I redeem Qantas Points for hotel bookings?
If you have at least 5,000 Qantas Points sitting in your account, you could use them to help pay off your hotel room. But we generally don’t recommend doing that if possible, as you won’t get as much value out of them compared to booking reward flights, even in Domestic Economy.
1. Points + Pay
Points + Pay enables you to use your Qantas Points to offset some (or all) of the cash cost of a hotel room. You will normally get about 0.6 cents per point worth of value, which is quite low.
We value Qantas Points to be roughly 1.9 cents each. Using 8,000 Qantas Points could get $48 off your hotel room, but it could also be used to book a short Qantas flight worth $200-$300. You do the maths.
2. Classic Hotel Reward
Classic Hotel Rewards offer a slightly better deal, but it’s still not great. With this option, a limited number of Australian properties and rooms are available to book for a fixed number of points.
Take this $432/night QT Executive King Room, which can also be nabbed for 59,000 Qantas Points. That’s still a pretty poor 0.73 cents per point.
Consider that 59,500 Qantas Points would be enough for a return trip between Perth and Melbourne, one-way in Business Class and one-way in Economy! An itinerary like that could easily cost upwards of $2,000, giving you more than 3 cents per point.
How do I contact Qantas Hotels?
A list of contacts can be found here. The service is managed by Hooroo, which also manages Jetstar hotel bookings.
The following live options are available from 8:30am to 5:30pm AEST/AEDT, every day.
- Live Chat
- Call them on 1300 738 206, or +61 2 8059 0182 from overseas
If your enquiry is less urgent, you can also email them through this webform or try self-manage your booking online.
Summing Up
Qantas Hotels is a useful portal for earning Qantas Points whenever you need to book your accommodation. During an offer period, you can get a good return in points for what you spend. For Airbnb, prices won’t be any higher than usual as you still book directly through them after validating your Qantas membership details.
Hotel prices do fluctuate, so we always recommend shopping around before booking. If a great rate is available elsewhere, you may prefer to go with it to save cash over earning extra points for a ‘fee’ in the price difference.
Also note that if you have hotel loyalty status (e.g. Hilton Diamond, IHG Rewards Platinum Elite), most chains will not allow you to use benefits or accrue loyalty points if you book through third parties such as Qantas Hotels. If that affects you, you might want to book directly with the hotel chain to ensure you don’t miss out on status benefits.
